This office built its victim advocate program on that one idea. Our advocates walk victims and their families through every stage of a case: what the charges mean, when the hearings are, what testifying is like, how to claim restitution, and how to be heard at sentencing. The program grew from zero positions to four, all funded by grants this office wrote, including the circuit's first bilingual advocate, because a victim who can't understand the process has been failed twice.
Georgia crime victims have the right to notice of court proceedings, the right to be present, and the right to be heard at critical stages, including sentencing. Our advocates make sure those rights are real rather than words on paper.
Straight answers. The District Attorney's office controls charging decisions and how the State's case gets tried, but it does not control the court's calendar, the rulings, or the verdict. We will never promise a result we can't deliver. What we promise is preparation, judgment, honesty, and effort, and an advocate whose whole job is you.
